November Monthly Meeting

The monthly meeting will be on Tuesday, November 13th at 6:30 pm.  On the agenda: 2013 officer nominations, annual meeting planning and Dolly Parton Imagination Library update.  Come join us and bring a FRIEND!

Book Mark Contest

It is that time again for the Annual Meeting Book Mark Contest "I Love Books!".  This is a contest that is open to youth of the community.  Please take your time and create a wonderful bookmark.  Artwork must be original.  Download and print off the entry form and drop it off at the Burbank Library, 875 Lake Road, before November 24th.  Winners will be announced at the annual meeting on December 8th, 2012 at the Burbank Library.  The event is from 3 pm-5 pm.

2012 Annual Meeting and Silent Auction

The 2012 Annual Meeting and Silent Auction is planned for December 8th from 3-5 pm at the Burbank Library.  The afternoon will include a potluck, entertainment, door prizes, silent auction and raffles.  Auction items include Holiday items, baked goods, and much more.  The funds raised go to support Library programs including giving books to children in Burbank.

Auction items will be available for preview by December 1st.  Anyone who wishes to make a donation of auction items, baked goods or food for the potluck may do so.  Please call or stop by the library.

More information will be available in November.  If you would like to be on the committee to help plan the event speak with Virginia Gutierrez.

Look for the Friends this month at community events.

This month the Friends are hosting a table at the Burbank Grange's Bazaar on October 27th from 9:00 am-3:00 pm.  The address is 44 Fourth Avenue.  The Friends will have books and movies for sale as well as their Friends' book bags.

On Halloween night you will find the Friends at the Trunk-or-Treat at the high school from 6-7:30 pm.  The Elementary PTO sponsors this event.  The Friends will be dressed as cowgirls and will be passing out candy and library information.  Children pay $1 dollar to participate.  There will be a pumpkin carving contest and chili,  chips and hot cocoa for sale.  Any community member can donate candy prior to the event at the elementary school.

The Friends handed out free books at the Fire Prevention festivities earlier this month.  They reminded families about free books for young children through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.  Families in Burbank and Wallula are eligible to receive free books through the mail by registering at www.imaginationlibrary.com/usa.  Children must be 0-4 years of age.

Books continue to sell!

The Friends have approved a great deal for purchasing used books in the foyer of the Burbank Library.  Pay just $10 for a bag full!  Ask for a wonderful Friends' tote bag and then proceed to fill it to the top with great books and just pay $10.  Individual items are still available at regular price.

Thank You Supporters!

The sale was a large success due to our volunteers. Thank you to those who helped sort and store books, set up and take down the books and goods on the day of the sale and spent money. A thank you also goes to those who donated books and items for the sale. Your show of support to the Friends and the Burbank Library is wonderful. Thank you!

August 2012 Friends Meeting

The August meeting will meet on Tuesday August 14th at 6:30 pm at the Burbank Library. A report from the book sale committee is eagerly awaited on. Come and find out if the Friends were able to raise $900 at the sale.

Resale Items for Saturday's sale

There will be some items for sale that were donated to the Friends.  They include a Jerusalem Bible like this one in black. The Friends have decided to have a silent bid for the item starting at $50 with a "buy now" price of $120. Here are a few of the other items:

Volunteers Needed

The Friends need volunteers on July 13th and 14th.  The Friends will be sorting and pricing items for the sale Friday morning at the Burbank Library.  On the morning of the 14th helpers will be needed at 7:30 am to set up for the sale.

May Monthly Meeting

The meeting tonight will discuss the Community BBQ, summer reading as well as Saturday's Make 'n Take Plant Sale.  The plants  left over from the sale on Saturday will be available for purchase.

Spring Flower Make and Take

The Friends are really excited to try out a new fun way of raising money.  The group will be hosting a Make and Take time where individuals can come make their own hanging basket or container.  The Friends will furnish soil, flowers and containers.  If you already have an empty pot at home feel free to bring it so that you can make it beautiful again.  After you have made your selections and fill your container you can make a donation based on the materials that you used.

Make and Take Flier

The February Friends meeting will be at a new time- 6:30 pm on Tuesday the 14th.  Please join us to discuss the coming year.  We will go over volunteer duties to help the group run more smoothly.  Volunteers are needed to plan the Friends' booth at the community BBQ, write thank you letters and yes-even maintain this blog among others.

The monthly meeting times has been moved to 6:30 pm.  The meetings will continue on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.  We will see you all on Valentine's Day!

Punkey's retirement party will be this coming Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 2 to 4 pm. It will be at the Plaza Library Branch, 1640 Plaza Way in Walla Walla.

If you have the time, please attend and wish her a happy retirement.  If you are interested in carpooling let us know.  We would leave around 1pm from the Library.  Please also let us know if you can bake cookies!
