Unapproved Minutes of Friends Meeting November 13, 2007

Meeting called to order at 7:30
In attendance: Kim D., Virginia G., Jennie T., Virginia S, Harold H., Gloria, Maria and Jill B.

The minutes of the October meeting were approved with the correction of Jill and Gloria added to the attendants.

Reports:
Jill updated the group with the treasurer’s report.

Many of the leftover books were sold at the Grange Sale. Members of the Friends also met new perspective Friends, and received some items for the Auction at the Annual Meeting.

The Blue Mountain Community Foundation Grant was received on October 18. Several friends went to receive the Grant money in Walla Walla. They had a nice time meeting others in the area doing services for their communities.

The Bookmark Contest theme this year is “Rise Up Reading”. It will be part of the annual meeting coming up in December. These will be judged on November 29th.

We are looking for people to give us donations for our silent auction and to bring goodies! Some of the Friends members will be contacting other members.

Nominations were made for officers to be voted on at the December meeting. Betty Shackett as President, Jill Bollinger for Vice, Gloria Meloy for Treasurer. Secretary will remain the same for one more year.

The next meeting will be December 8 at 2:00 p.m. and be followed by the annual celebration and auction.

Unapproved Minutes of Friends Meeting October 9, 2007

Reports:
Jill updated the group with the treasurer’s report.

The Book Sale was a great success! We made $440.30 with money still coming in! We are looking for people to take the remainder off our hands! Bookworm will go through and take what they will. Some will go to the Walla Walla bookstore. We still have mystery, romance and bestsellers available!

We received the exciting news that we received the Blue Mountain Community Foundation Grant! We will have representatives present at a reception to accept the check on October 18.

The Bookmark Contest theme this year is “Rise Up Reading”. It will be part of the annual meeting coming up in December.

We are having a planning meeting for the Annual Meeting on October 16 at 6:00 p.m.

Virginia S. will provide the refreshments for the Staff Meeting for November and Jennifer T. will have them for the December meeting.

Kim Dotta will provide refreshments for the November meeting.

Annual Meeting

The annual meeting will be held on December 8th, 2007 at the Burbank Library. Members will meet from 2-3 pm and all are welcome at 3 pm. There will be a silent auction, food and entertainment. We will also announce the winners of the children's book mark contest. If you would like to help with the event or the silent auction please let us know.

Unapproved Minutes of Friends Meeting September 11, 2007


Meeting called to order at 7:30
In attendance: Kim D., Virginia G., Jennie T., Virginia S, Harold.

We didn’t have an official meeting for August as there were only two people in
attendance!

Reports:
Jill updated the group with the treasurer’s report..

We now have one small canopy, and have purchased two more.

Still researching ideas for the perpetual plaque.

The teens washed the windows and had a pizza party to thank them!

There were 43 finishers of the Summer Reading program. We still have some books to
give away.

The picnic at Hood Park was a success! All who were there enjoyed the good food and
fun entertainment! We will do that again next year!

We will check into having a combined meeting again with the PTO.

We will make an appearance at the Elementary School open house on Monday 9-17.

We are looking for donations of books for the Friends Book Sale in September. The
sale is scheduled for September 28 and 29. We have added to the sale a Farmers
Market and Craft fair for Saturday from 9-12.

Jill will provide refreshments for the October meeting.

Book Sale, September 28th and 29th

The book sale is set for September 28th and 29th. On Saturday we will also have live music. 9am-12 noon will be music for all audiences and 12-5 will be for teens. If you know of any bands or musical groups that would like to participate please have them call the Library at 545-6549.

Unapproved Minutes of Friends Meeting July 10, 2007

Reports:
Virginia updated the group with the treasurer’s report, as Jill wasn’t present at meeting.

Betty is still checking into getting a canopy or two for our outdoor activities.

The perpetual plaque will be purchased this month to honor those giving to the Friends.

The Dryers grant was denied. We are still waiting on the other grant.

The inside of the windows got washed by the teens, and the outside will be washed soon.

The attendance is down this summer at Summer Reading, and other programs.

The Friends will be putting on a Family BBQ on August 10th at Hood Park. We will be having people sign up to do entertainment at the amphitheater like skits, songs, demonstrations etc. Also to bring food, clean up, prepare etc.

We are thinking of doing another Volunteer Training Program like the Tea we had last fall. It was well attended, and we think others may be interested in participating also.

We are looking for donations of books for the Friends Book Sale in September.

The Staff Dessert will be by Betty S. for August and Virginia S. for September.

Virginia G. will provide refreshments for the August meeting.

Hood Park Picnic August 10th, 2007

Come out with the FRIENDS for a BBQ and campfire presentation. The Friends will be providing pulled pork or beef for sandwiches, you bring a side dish. After dinner we will all head over to the amphitheater for the campfire presentation. We are looking for all types of talents for the evening. If your family needs ideas on a skit or a song to do ask the staff at the library for help.

Call the Library to RSVP, to tell us what you are bringing and to sign up for the entertainment portion.

Virginia updated the group with the treasurer’s report, as Jill wasn’t present at meeting. Book sale money is still coming in.

Jennie reported on the success of the Concert put on at the school. Not well attended, but very good. Professional musicians, they weren’t disappointed in the turnout. Said they will schedule Burbank in again in the future.

Kim and Virginia G reported that the Community BBQ went well. Having a canopy will make those things much better.

Betty is still checking into getting a canopy or two for our outdoor activities.

Six chairs were purchased from Ikea and we voted to buy 10 more.

The Dryers grant has been submitted and the Blue Mountain Foundation is being worked on.

This Thursday the 14th is Family Game Night, and registration for Summer Reading. Schedules are available in the library for help needed at activities.

As the windows were not washed by the Senior Class, the job will be offered to have the Teen Program kids wash them in exchange for a pizza party!

The Staff Dessert will be by Virginia G. for August and Virginia S. for September.

Kim will provide refreshments for the July meeting.

Gloria commented that there was only one person in attendance at the Senior Saturday. She will try again in June.

The Poetry slam went well.

The concert in the park had wonderful, positive reviews. Kids were happy, t-shirts sold for $10.00 each Ray Poland and Sons donated money, and Punky enjoyed it too. People asking for another one!

United Way checks begin in July.

The projector and chairs will be purchased soon, they are being researched now. Harold is also working on a grant from Dryers Ice Cream for the Summer Reading Program.

Punky supports the idea of a plaque in the library. Money to go toward signage for library.

Inland Symphony asking for donations for a concert, Friends will supply refreshments.

Betty offered to research for a canopy for outdoor projects at the library.

Community BBQ set for May 24th. We will have a table.

Information for a rural orchestra concert tabled until next month.

Gloria shared more information about the Senior Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 the fourth Saturday of each month at the Library beginning February 24th. The first one was small, but hopefully will be better attended in the future.

We discussed and decided that we would purchase signs for use in advertising events put on by the Friends.

Jon Rickords gave us information on donations given by Robert Gumm. He would like to donate a nice bench to be placed in memory of his wife.

Jill reported that we have $8424.97 in our account.

We joined the WLA, Washington Library Association. There is a conference coming soon.

The Poetry Slam is coming up on April 12th. The Friends will be providing refreshments.

We discussed the Book Sale for March 23-24. We have some books already, need donations, and need to get together to sort and prepare for the sale. We have about 6 canopies to use, and will be calling Friends to gather support in transporting, sorting and setting up books and tables for the sale. It will be Friday from 10:00 to 4:00 and Saturday from 9:00 to 2:00. We have been allowed to use the garage at the school all next week for sorting and organizing! We spent under $20.00 on advertisements.

We discussed the Book Sale for March 23-24. We have some books already, need donations, and need to get together to sort and prepare for the sale. We need to check on portable canopies to cover the tables for an outside sale. We discussed having the sale Friday from 10:00 to 4:00 and Saturday from 9:00 to 2:00. Also having a table for a Friends sign up. We are checking on setting up a table to advertise at the elementary school on March 14, at Grandparents Day. The ads are expensive, from $15.00 to $120.00.

Gloria sent information about a Senior Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 the fourth Saturday of each month at the Library beginning February 24th. Discussed having tax help available at the Library, looking into that. Discussed having a caregivers support class.

Deciding what to do with certificate we received for animal care.

The Tri City Citizen will run information on us if we give the information to them. Lisa Bowers gave us that idea.

Debbie Williams handed out a folder about the Haas Foundation. Anyone knowing anystudent in Junior High or High School with any kind of monetary need, medical,sports costs, etc. can contact www.haasfoundation.org for more information.

A coffee machine was purchased by the library for use by all using the library.

January Unapproved Meeting Minutes

Unapproved Minutes of Friends Meeting January 9, 2007
Combined meeting with Columbia Burbank PTO

Meeting called to order at 5:40

We reviewed our December meeting/ 10th Anniversary Celebration. At that meeting were many old members, new families, bookmark contest winners, and Friends. In all, about 50 people. Over $600.00 was made on the auction, which will be turned over to the
library; to be matched to purchase much needed chairs for the library. Excellent
speakers, many door prizes, a very successful evening! Virginia is waiting on Pizza
Hut certificates to be mailed for the bookmark contest winners.

Punky won the “Dessert of the Month” at the auction, and donated it to the staff for
their staff meetings! These are held the first Wednesday of the month, and the dessert needs to be enough for 10 people, and arrive before 4:00. So far signed up

We discussed dates for the two book sales for 2007. Decided so far is March 23 and 24,and October.

The Poetry Slam is set for April 12, the Friends agreed to supply refreshments and door prizes.

We discussed again being a part of the Community BBQ at the school, which will be held May 24th. We will have a booth set up, and possibly include more activities this time for the kids.

Combined portion with PTO 6:00 p.m.

Children’s author Jasper Tompkins will be coming to Burbank on Feb 23. There will be an assembly and book sales. The library will post brochures for this also.

The school also has Bingo Feb 2, and Reptile Man March 6 coming up.

Discussed the summer reading program, they will add our theme of “Get a Clue” to their reading program.
